Fashion design entrepreneur

Precious Ngcobo is a member of Tholokuhle savings group, which is based in the Mbava area. Precious is a skilled seamstress and after completing her Matric she started sewing, doing alterations for people in her community. After joining her Self Help Group and seeing that her sewing could become a means of earning an income, she was inspired to improve her sewing skills with a focus on becoming a fashion designer and dressmaker. In 2009, she signed up at the Khula Wande fashion design school and graduated at the end of that year.

After graduation she started her own business called “Tholakonke Fashion Design”, situated near the busy commercial centre of Cato Ridge. In isisZulu, “Tholakonke” means “have it all”. Precious explains, “I chose this name because I want my customers to trust in me and believe that they will have everything that they need – beside this sewing business I also have other businesses, including those offering décor, mobile freezers, catering and beading.” Precious is kept busy with making wedding dresses, graduation robes, and traditional clothing for both men and women.

There is no stopping this driven entrepreneur and she has great plans for the future: “My future plan is to have my own school of fashion design because there is no such school in Mbava and other places in Swayimane. I also plan on having my own brand called ‘Press-sure’ on my clothes that I make.”

We wish her well as she grows her various enterprises!
